Joan Gotti
A BREATH OF FRESH AIR
I am excited to run as a Democrat for Little Silver Borough Council. I believe the Borough Council must be more representative of our community. This is our Council, and it should reflect and advocate for all of us. Electing more Democrats and women to the Council will lead to more diverse, inclusive representation.
I am a retired Human Resources and Organization Development professional who climbed the corporate ladder for over 23 years at a large financial services organization. My business, Board and volunteer background has made me a champion of change and an advocate for women and their families from healthcare to food insecurity. I realize I am a fortunate person who has a duty to support my community especially in these challenging times. With my proven leadership and management skills, I am ready to work for you.
Biography
Joan Gotti is a retired Human Resources and Organization Development professional. She successfully climbed the corporate ladder for twenty-three years at a Fortune 50 financial services organization on the strength of being an effective manager. Her leadership and communication abilities enabled her to navigate change, guide people and her organizations through substantial mergers, give voice to those not heard and advocate for her constituencies while driving cultural change.
Joan’s volunteer work has been focused on women’s healthcare, politics, social justice, the environment and the performing arts. After leaving corporate life, Joan and her husband, Kevin McGettigan, traveled overseas to Southeast Asia to do volunteer social work in Thailand. Upon her return from abroad, she held various Board of Directors positions on a number of volunteer and professional Boards. She is a major supporter of those in the local community with food insecurity and has always advocated for women’s healthcare access and for the less fortunate. In Little Silver, she served as the first President of the newly formed Little Silver Democratic Club, a role she currently holds, and Vice Chair of the Democratic Municipal Committee.
A life long Jersey girl, Joan was raised in Middletown and moved to the Two Rivers area thirty years ago, settling in Little Silver a few years back with Kevin, to whom she has been married for twenty five years, her mom, Kate, and a spoiled Vizsla dog named Lola. As one of eight siblings, she learned to get things done with teamwork and manage multiple opinions and needs. She fondly states, “I was raised with wolves!”
One of her early life accomplishments was to earn a Division 1 basketball scholarship to Eastern Kentucky University where she received her BS degree in Speech Communications and Human Relations. In fact, the final tryout with the scout that clinched the deal occurred on the Markham Place basketball court.
Joan also holds a MS degree in Organization Development from the School of Public Affairs at American University.
When Joan is not busy with Board work, political work and volunteer work, she and Kevin practice organic gardening and raise bees.
Joan understands that her values of hard work, follow through and commitment are all keys to an effective Borough Council candidate and member, especially in these unprecedented times. Little Silver is a special, wonderful town. There are and will be challenges ahead, especially as we move to the new normal. Joan will listen, support, manage and advocate for the community of Little Silver. She asks for and will earn your vote.
